I have been issued a check in the names of myself and my four siblings, 5 names total. Are the proceeds split equally 5 ways?

At a minimum, what is the check for, who is the decedent, is there a surviving spouse, any siblings that have passed, any outstanding bills of the decedent. Presumably equally, but not necessarily. However, as a practical matter to cash a check made payable to joint payees, the bank needs all payees to endorse the check. There must be an agreement among the payees as to who gets what.
