Late filing for IRS form 706

A firm had an estate and unaware of time table for filing IRS form 706. Now 8 years later another firm has the estate. How should they proceed?

They should proceed with great care.

It just depends on a whole host of factors beyond the scope of what can be detailed on a message board. Ultimately, the new firm should study the facts and make the appropriate determination.
