It is probably worth going to a free consultation with an attorney to discuss it. But I have to say that it is unlikely you will be told by the lawyer to pursue it. You are not your step mother's heir. And no one is entitled to inherit--not even heirs. Your step mom can will her assets to whomever she pleases. But I don't want to discourage you from making an inquiry just in case other avenues may become possible, like undue influence or tortuous interference with inheritance.
