Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Legal Power for post-mortem testing

My son died, autopsy was performed, never married, no children, only hiers-mother and father. To do more postmortem testing of specimins to determine cause of death-do I (mother) need to be administrator of his estate to have the power to get a court order for more forensic testing? If I am made administrator will I have to go through probate even if there is almost nothing to his estate? (only $2,700.00 used towards funeral expenses-he had no life insurance)

Thank You So Much,

A Mother
