letter of office?

when my father in law died in may, my husband was his only beneficiary, now my husband died 2 mos later (July,2006). I cannot access my father in law's bank account unless i obtain a letter of reference, and I don't know how to obtain one if this is in fact required.?????

Letters of Office is a court certified notice that a probate estate has been opened. Someone needs to petition the court to open an estate. Contact an attorney.
