Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Lifetime Memberships Passed to Heirs?

I own a lifetime camp ground membership which includes an additional ''generation'' (meaning it can be sold or willed one time). The membership is payed off. However, I now pay monthly maintenance fees. When I die, is one of my heirs obligated to pick up this membership and continue paying the maintenance fees? Or can the membership simply be allowed to lapse?

Re: Lifetime Memberships Passed to Heirs?

You need to read the terms of your agreement with the campground to determine what happens when you die. I doubt that your heirs are obligated to continue paying the monthly maintenance fee, but it should be spelled out in your agreement.
