Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

medical expenses + death

my sister just died leaving an extreme amount of hospital bills. Can the hospitals, doctors go after her life insurance benefit for payment? Since the bills are in her name does her husband have to pay them? Will a death certificate sent to creditors end collections? What does the husband have to pay and what doesn't he have to pay. She was the primary bread winner of the family. She left her husband, a 17 year old and a 7 year old behind with only a life insurance policy, many bills and a house in foreclosure. How can we protect money for the kids from creditors? Please help!!

Re: medical expenses + death

Life insurance won't be hit by medical bills as the deceased was not a beneficiary. Other people do not have to pay the bills of the deceased either.

You really need to have this situation reviewed. Husband might be responsible for the bills.

Who is the beneficiary on the life insurance?
