my mother has cancer and is incurring medical bills. she has medicare but no supplemental. she is 80 and her only asset is her home. can she quit claim the home to another family member now to avoid having a lien put on the property?

In most circumstances, that is a bad idea -- but there are other things that she can do. She may be a good candidate for a "Pool" trust which would allow her to immediately qualify for Medicaid, but force a payback to the government at her death. Feel free to call me to discuss her options.
