Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois
My mother just died leaving me in charge of her estate. She had a will and left certain things to people and everything left in the house was to be left to me. Her money was in a trust. She had just purchased a house a year ago and it could not be put in a trust. The house was also left to me in her will. Her estate is now in probate. What is probate and what will I be expected to do.

My condolences on the loss of your mother. If you are "in charge" of your mother's probate estate, you are the executor. If you are not the executor, you are not in charge of the estate. If the estate is being probated, a court proceeding has been initiated, and the procedures to follow and the relative rights and duties of the parties are best discussed with the attorney for the probate estate. An opinion from any attorney other than the attorney for the estate is probably inappropriate.
