Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

I received an invoice from an insurance co.that says I owe $560.00.

work description : PROBATE (GUARDIANSHIP)

Current Bond Penalty: $17,780

I was in a car accident a couple years ago and just settled my son's case (he was injured in the accident). The letter states effective 07/2009 and expiration 07/2018,

It expires when he turns 18 years old. Can someone explain this to me.

Thank you,

From this description, it seems like you received a bill from a Bondsman for $560.00. If your son received over $10,000 as a result of his injuries, your attorney may have opened a Guardianship Estate for your son to facilitate receipt of the funds. You would probably have been selected as your son's Guardian (which is why you have received this bill). Guardians are often bonded through an insurance company in order to protect the minor's assets from any wrongdoing of a Guardian.

That Guardianship Estate would stay in place until he turns 18 (or until the funds are exhausted as allowed by the Court). If you'd like to talk further about this, please feel free to call me.
