Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Relative died intestate

I have received a letter from a research company in Salt Lake City, UT stating that I am a possible heir to a distant Aunt's estate. They sent a form for me to sign giving them 20% of any inheritance I have coming for ''finding'' it. Is this a scam or a normal thing? I don't know if I should sign away 20% of something that may or may not even exist, though they did mention several of my close relatives have done so. I live in Illinois but don't know where she lived.

Re: Relative died intestate

I would suggest a follow-up to obtain additional information. If a probate estate is opened, it can be easily verified in the county where the decedent had her last residence (with the probate clerk).

Good luck to you.
