Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

What is the resonable fee for an independent administrator of an estate in Illinois. I have read it is anything from $50 to $75 an hour or up the 12% of the estate value

What is reasonable depends on the complexity of the estate and the nature of the actions performed by the administrator, as well as the qualifications of the admininistrator. In my opinion, charging a percentage of the value of the estate is presumptively unreasonable because the administrator should charge for his or her time spent on what is necessary for administration of the estate. If this is a court supervised estate, the judge may help guide you in determining what is reasonable. If this is an independently administered estate, the residuary heirs will have to approve the fees before the estate can be closed.
