Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Settlements in Escrow

I was awarded a settlement in a criminal suit. The money was placed in an escrow agent at a bank with specific terms. My attorney assured me that the loosing law firm was suppose to send me the client escrow documemtation so I could visit the escrow agent to access the funds once the terms were met. I'm having difficulty in obtaining assistant from the defending law firm in this matter. In addition, I have limited resources to solicit legal aid to assist in this matter. Any suggestions on how I could obtain this client escrow documeation from the defending law firm ?

Re: Settlements in Escrow

I would first start with your own attorney. Tell him/her the situation and ask for advice on how to proceed.

The local law schools have legal assistance programs that might be able to assist you.

Lastly, an attorney may take your case knowing that he will be paid when your escrowed funds are released. From your posting, it doesn't seem like there will be much attorney time incurred to obtain a resolution to your situation.

Good luck to you.
