Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois
I shared a joint bank account with my room-mate for use with bills. She passed away last month and I need to know if I will be held responsible for her debts since my name was on the checks as well as hers. I was NOT on her credit cards. She had no life insurance and no family. Please advise.
I live in Illinois. Thank you, Nita

You are only responsible for debts that you co-signed. The fact that you are on a joint checking account should not make you liable for any of her debts.
Good luck to you.
