Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

My sister recently refinaced my mother's home after her death and rescued it from forclosure. Do I have any claim to the equity in the house?

Hello,

A little more background information is needed. Some initial questions I have are:

Whose name(s) was on the deed? Did your mother have a will? Was there a probate estate opened? I would be happy to talk to you about these questions if you would like to give me a call next week.

Dana poses good questions. However, keep in mind, if the value of the house dropped substantially, you may have little equity to fight about. Fortunately, Cook County lists a lot of records online. Feel free to contact me and I'll help you pull some relevant records that may be of assistance.

The fact that your sister was able to refinance the house tells me the home belongs to her, probably as a surviving joint tenant. But you need to consult with an attorney and provide a lot more background.
