Successor Trustee

Revocable trust created by Father living in Illinois.

I am daughter, living in California.

He has been told I cannot be the successor trustee because I live out of state.

Is this true?

Absolutely not.

I hope it wasn't the lawyer drafting the trust that told him that.

Illinois law may be different, but I've never heard of such a prohibition, and in California we include out-of-state trustees often. It may not be recommended if the distance will prevent the trustee from doing his/her/its job effectively, but that is a different issue.
