Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois
I don't trust my lawyer
My mother was killed in a car accident on Christmas Eve 1999. There was no will. My step-father was appointed executor of the estate. The first time we spoke to the lawyer she said she was more than happy to answer our questions. I called her and ask her about a statement of charges on 2/29/00. She said she would get a statement out at the end of the month. We have not recieved it yet. My step-father told us 3 girls that he wanted nothing from my mom's estate in front of the lawyer at her office. She told him not to say that because it is a verbal contract. There is also a retirement account. Is that also part of probate or should that have been dispersed already? His lawyer says no. She also said to him creditors can still come back on him in 2-3 years after probate?
I have already file a complaint with the ARDC. Where do we go from here. We (my sister and I) don't trust her. But we can't fire her, correct?

Re: I don't trust my lawyer
Hello and thank you for your
question. I have seen situa-
tions such as yours and usually those family members
hire an attorney to advise
them on activities in the
case. In this situation you
may want to think about doing
so. At least you would have
a source for professional
information about the case on
your behalf.
