Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Illinois

Wills in Illinois

Can wills in Illinois be written by an individual or do they need to be written by a lawyer? I just want to make sure that if I were to write my own will that it would protect my wishes.

You may prepare your own will, but not someone else's. It must be in writing, must have witneses (use four) to your signature. Your executor must be an adult living in the United States. You might want to have someone you trust look it over first to make sure that everything in it is clear and makes sense and isn't liable to cause any problems, however.
