Can you tell me if there is a specific amount of time in Illinois that needs to occur before distributing assets of a will? I am hearing 9 months and also immediately. Can you shed light on this?

In Illinois, a probate estate must remain open for six months from the first publication of notice to creditors. To be sure there are no unpaid claims, the executor should also give notice to known creditors three months before distributing assets. Some determination of the tax liability of the decedent should also be had.
