I'm sure that there are good quality documents available on the web, just as I'm sure there are poor quality documents available. However, in the field of estate planning, even a document that is well-drafted for one family may be entirely inappropriate to another family's situation.

The problem is, without having an attorney review the documents, there is no way for a layperson to know whether the documents will stand up legally when they are needed, and whether they will do what you intended.

If you decide to purchase estate planning documents off of a web site, I would strongly advise that you have an attorney review them who is familiar with your family situation and requirements. Estate planning documents should be individualized to fit the needs of your family. Sometimes cutting corners ends up costing much more later on.

Good luck to you.

I agree with Cindi. As a matter of fact, there are horror stories about how these on-line do it yourself estate planning forms did not do as the person intended. The problem is that most of these forms are generic, and do not conform to the laws of the State of Illinois. Do yourself a favor and hire an attorney. You'll save money in the long run. Good luck.
