Legal Question in Workers Comp in Illinois

Confused on the 3day waiting period

Injured at work. Went to emergency, was told to not go to work for 1-day.( so i didn't) to call for medical center for further instructions the next day (friday). Called and went in for another examination of injury. Was referred to a specialist the same day. Specialist looked over injury and advised surgery for the following monday morning. Although, he stated on a paper that was faxed to the company stating that i was allowed to work that very same day=friday. And having surgery on monday morning. Now i have a paper stating i can't work til further notice since the surgery, but the person in charge at work says i can not get paid for the 3=days of waiting. And that since the first paper said he could work nothing starts counting till that monday of surgery, and not the day after my injury. Is that correct? Since i was injured on a thursay and have not been to work since when does my 3 day waiting period start.
