Legal Question in Workers Comp in Illinois

Self Employed

I currently file as self employed though I work specifically for one contractor. I injured my back 2+yrs ago on one of his jobs (no claim).Progressivly got better(many meds.and Dr.s). Recently I overstressed my back worse than ever and will go through MRI aswell as seeing all those doc's again. My question is this; Do I have any recourse or viable workmans comp. claim against the contractor I was working for because I am considered 'self employed'?

Re: Self Employed

Self employed people are not covered under the workers' compensation act. All employers are required to be covered by Work Comp insurance. As self employed you can elect to be covered. That is the only way a self employed is entitled to Work Comp benefits.
