Legal Question in Workers Comp in Illinois
fair settlement for knee injury
I was told by the wc insurance company that the range of settlement was from $14,000 to $25,000 and that my settlement would be around $17,000. I did not get this in writing and the person who told me the above left the company. The new person informed me that my settlement is $10,000. This is for a prepatellar bursa injury which required surgical repair. He based this on 17.5% loss of use to leg. Where did he get these numbers? Why was I told a much higher amount by the previous person? I just want a fair settlement.

Re: fair settlement for knee injury
No attorney is going to tell you if the offer that has been made to you is a fair offer. An attorney investigates a claim to look for ALL facts that may boost the value of your case. That investigation takes time and costs some money. When all is done, it may turn out that 17 1/2% loss of use of a leg is fair and then it may turn out to be worth more too. There are any number of facts that we look for. The insurance company is not going to do this for you. But hiring a lawyer DOES commit you to paying a fee. If you want to take your chances by listening to an insurance adjuster, then you are gambling your case. I could help you with this if you are in the Chicagoland area and if you are willing to commit to an attorney-client commitment.
