Legal Question in Workers Comp in Illinois

After I had the IME almost 2 years ago, the insurance company refused any further doctor's appointments despite my health complaints. So recently, I hired a lawyer to help me with this situation and he thought, for my protection, it is better to keep the case open longer, to what I agreed. Today he gives me two options: to settle the case (the insurance is requesting that) or to see a doctor chosen by the insurance company, which I am refusing to do. This gets interpreted by my lawyer that I am not seeking treatment and therefore the insurance will request the trial. Can they do that? Under what circumstances? My healing is not completed and I am not willing and ready to settle. I have no idea what the trial means for my case and how will that accelerate the settlement of my case? Can the arbitrator request the settlement after the trial? Do I have to settle the case if I don't want to? Thanks.
