Legal Question in Workers Comp in Illinois
Settlements
This may be a dumb question,
but do all post injury settlements
come from workers comp. or do
some come from the employers
themselves? I work for a large
factory and it seems most with
injuries, regardless of perm.
damage, get a fairly good
settlement. I was told by a co-
worker that the check is cut
by our employer for settlements.
Does this make sense?

Re: Settlements
Large employers can be "self-insured" and pay for the claims directly; however, as they are not workers' compensation experts they can (and usually do) hire a company to serve as the "third party administrator" of the claims, who basically takes over the role of the "adjuster".
Unless you are an expert in workers' compensation claims you should probably hire someone to represent you in the claims settlement process as well.
Good luck,

Re: Settlements
It is technically possible if the company you work for is self-insured.
Settlements depends on may factors. One thing you should remember that whether the company you work for is self insured or whether there is an insurance company adjusting the claim, from the moment you have made a claim, you no longer have any friends looking out for your interests. As such, it is highly recommended that you get the help. counsel and advice of an attorney who knos how to deal with the adjusters and all their tricks.
I hope this helps,
