Legal Question in Family Law in India
Dear Rajiv Gupta Sir,
Thankyou for enlightening me about domestic violence law and 60 days limit prescribed to it. As per your advice I was reading about DVA on internet. The law gives maintainence and housing to the victim. This law is meant for protection of wife in couples who are still interested in living together. And punishment of one year jail is there only if there is breach of protection order. But I am not interested in money or house. When he has no feelings for me there is no point taking relationship forward forcibly or living in his house forcibly. I just want to know if there is any punishment in this law for the suffering he has put me into until now, like imprisonment for a year or something. I hope when my so called husband get a punishment, some dowry hungry people are atleast discouraged.

Hello. This is a burning issue this days in the Indian Society. I would advise you to take some help from the Women Protection NGO's
in this situation, if you are able to prove that they have committed an offence u/s 498a, only then they can be imprisoned upto three years. you may puruse your f.i.r. u/s 498a for the same.
