Fabrication is a kind of doing service with an end product so you do not require any central excise registration for excise duty, but since you are doing service as a contractor you are supposed to get yourself/firm/company registered for service tax,as you are liable to pay service tax if your turnover exceeds 10 lacs.

If your turnover exceeds prescribed limit (i.e. 10 lakhs per annum) you require to obtain registration. Contact a local Lawyer who can assist you for this.
