What is the offence under IT act for using "bastard" to a person in an email?
Please explain what action can be taken by the person who received the email?
What can the sender do to save himself?

As per my understanding IT Act does covers hacking or such other offenses. As per the facts, you can take defamatory action against such person under IPC.
