as per the provisions of Indian Evidence Act can an affidavit be admitted as a piece of evidence in a court of law or any departmental enquiry?

In cases where no other evidence is available, affidavits can be used as evidence in proceeding.
Affidavits can be used in administrative proceedings as evidence.
An affidavit can be used for supporting a court case as well as for supporting mortgage documents.
