Legal Question in Appeals and Writs in India
sir,my father was acquitted in customs case 20 yrs back.he expired 10yrs back.But now customs assistant comissioner has sent a notice to us the legal heirs demanding a penalty of twenty five lakh rupees for a case in which my father was acquittted and moreover he is not even alive now and most of the people accused in the case have passed away.kindly guide us

criminal case ends with the death of criminal and any penalty imposed by criminal courts cannot be recovered in the form of a civil debt. show your notice to the lawyer and he would send an appropriate reply to the assistant commisioner.
