The return of cheque with the endorsement that it "exceeds the arrangement' is normally the reason for return when it is an overdraft account or cash credit account where the amount of the cheque exceeds the limit upto which the account holder can draw on his account. Supposing there is an O/D limit of Rs.10,000/- if the account holder has already drawn that amount or near thereto and if the cheque which is presented would make the debit balance to exceed Rs.10,000/- the bank returns the cheque on the ground that it exceeds arrangement.
