Legal Question in Banking Law in India
Credit Card Lost
Hi, I lost my card and before i could report the same transactions happened. The bank has presented the charge slips and obviously the signatures don't match. Want to know if the merchant has no responsibility to check the signature. Even if the card was lost shouldn't the merchant havet his responsibility to check signature. Wanted to understand the legal stand on signature verification. What i don't understand is that why the bank has not taken any action against the merchant and is trying to penalise me. The bank is Citibank.

Re: Credit Card Lost
Some times, the credit cards are not signed on the back. It is too much to expect the merchant to verify or compare the signatures on the back of the card and charge slip. No responsibility as such can be cast onthe merchant establishment to compare signatures. However you can prefer complaint to the Police and also contest that you have not used the card. It is a matter of proof. Best advice is to take care of your card.
