When you did not pay for a long time about 6 months mostly then it becomes NPA and if you are paying regularly or partly, then it depends upon circumstance how much you are paying.

when you fails to pay for a long time then it is NPA
if you fail to pay consequetively two quarters interest or two installments of EMU wherever applicable the account is liable to be classified as NPA. It can also be classified as NPA when there is no security or stocks or the stocks depleted far below the quantum of advance.
Except for Agri lending- If Installment is overdue for more than 90 days, account is classified as NPA. It is 360 days for Agri loans.
Treating an account as NPA is an internal affair of a bank, as a customer, you are supposed to pay the dues else bank may recover by legal means.
