Re: copyright for books
I see that there are two replies to this question and both are correct although they appear to be at variance with each other. Hence I'm posting this clarification to you.
Copyright in any original literary work done by
you is automatically vested with you. However if you want a certificate from the Government authority, in this case The Copyright Office based in New Delhi, you need to apply to them and get a certificate. For that you have to apply to the office. The option is yours whether to register it or not, but in any case of future disputes, the registration from the Government will be helpful and support you.

Re: copyright for books
There is a procedure prescribed by the Copy Right Act and the Rules framed thereunder. You need to follow the procedure for registration of the Copy Right in the Book written by you.
Re: copyright for books
You already have the copyright in what is written by you - you do not need to get it from anybody. Just put this message prominently on the book - "(c) Copyright (year of publication) (your name). This appears preferably on one of the first few pages and covers.
