conversion of the Export oriented unit into domestic tariff area

Re: Domestic Tariff area
An export oriented unit may be converted into DTA and such conversion is permissible under the Foreign Trade Policy. Broadly, the requirement is to return to the Govt. all the benefits which the unit has availed by virtue of being an EOU. For eg. in case goods have been imported without payment of duty then the duty is required to the paid on such goods. Even goods procured from domestic area is required to be duty paid. Further in case where the export obligation is not fulfilled there the department may also impose penalty.
