Jurisdiction under NI Act
Sir ,In our case the cheques for Rs.30 lakhs & Rs.5 Lakhs got bounced in different dates(the cheques were issued by single party). We have issued two notices. Can we file two cases. If so , can we file one case in Bank jurisdiction (where the cheque returned) and another one in Legal notice jurisidction (where the legal notice was issued). Can we handle these two cases in two different courts in different jurisdictions. Please note that the transation is for both the cheques is only one.

You can file file cases as follows:
1.In the jurisdiction where the your office or principal place of business/residence lies,from where you might have done the transactions with the party who issued you the cheques.
2.In the jurisdiction where the party issued cheques, whose office or principal place of busines lies or the transaction took place.

You may be required to file two cases. The place of jurisdiction may be decided in consultation with your local lawyer who may advise you after perusing your documents.

You can file your case in the jurisdiction where any part of the offence arise. There has been a specific guidelines by the Supreme Court on this. You please consult your local advocate as to where the case is to be filed.
