For opening a retail store, one is required to take permissions/licenses from various authorities and number of licenses will be depend upon location of the retail store. As per our understanding in delhi, one is required to take 35-40 licenses from the different department of Government. Hope the above answer to your query.

you have not mentioned the principal place of business,however assuming that you are going to open it in India,the following procedures are to be followed.
1.If it is a own premises you must have the ownership document of the place of business.
2.If it is a rental or leased premises then you have to make a rental/lease deed.
3.You are required to have a shop license from local municpality authorities.
4.If your turnover exceeds Rs.5,00,000/- then you are supposed to get registered in the commercial taxes for obtaining either VAT or TOT
5.For the process mentioned in the column No.4 you have to verify whether the goods you deal in are taxable or not.If the goods are exempted from commercial taxes like VAT,etc then you are not required of the above registration at all.
6.If any labour involved in the business then a labour license is required.
All the above are mandatory and other things like Insurance of the goods,Fire license are optional.
