Can one be sentenced to jail in a civil court for cheque bounce??

Yes the one can be sentanced by the civil court if the defendant has failed to pay the amount.

Yes. Once it is proved in court that cheque was bounced and further the person is still unable to pay the amount despite the court allowing him sufficeint time for the same, he is liable to be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to twice the amount of the cheque, or with both.

yes but its very lengthy and rarely applied provision.

Cheque bounsing is a criminal trial punishable with imprisonment and fine.However,Civil court is also vested with power to send the defendent to jail if any decree is passed and defendent has failed to pay the amount and in that case it is civil imprisonment.
