Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in India

My laptop has been stolen in the month of June 12. 15 days before I got a call from my previous company that my laptop was stolen by my Room partner who was also working in the same company. Now Company has handed over the laptop to the police at Rourkela (Odisha) and said to me that visit the police station and get your laptop. Pl. guide me What would be the procedure to get back form police because I have not lodged FIR on that time...

Dear Sir / Madam,

It happens that both, you and your roommate were working in the same Company earlier. It is strange that you were not aware of the fact that your laptop went missing since June, 2012. When you quit the service of the Company, they ought to have obtained a clearance form duly signed by you for return of all Company owned property back to them on your last working day. If they have not, you are not responsible for the lapse of the Company, nor do you have the right to go and claim the laptop from the Police station now. The matter now rests between the Company and the Police to sort out, you are not in the picture.
