Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in India
Hi Sir,
I am from Himachal Pradesh. My younger brother got court marriage with a girl whose house was nearby to our House. Her parents were against this marriage and they had given some money to the police to harrass us. They tried to fire our motor cycle at midnight and next day they broken our car front window class. When we have done the FIR in Police station. Police is asking us for any proof or clue that you have seen anyone at that time. Since we have doubt on them we told them to call and ask them. They just called up them and done compromise without asking us.
In our village some people had called up a meeting to boycott us because my younger brother got married with a girl who is in the same village. This girl is 19 years old and their marriage is registered. But now we are facing problem from Villagers where we are residing.
After looking at all this, we had given application to pradhan to conduct panchayat to resolve this> he had ignored our application and not done any meeting in our favour.
Can you please tell me what are rules we can use or can take steps against these people so that we will not face any harrassment because police is with them.
Thanks
Sonika

better settle the matter out of court and in case the same cannot be done, file a complaint before the magistrate of your area.
It is not a legal but a social problem. You may seek police protection but cannot fight with the whole village. Therefore, consider an amicable settlement or shift the couple to some far off place for some time till the issue is cooled.
