What are the basic criteria to become the Prime Minister of India?

To be appointed as the Prime Minister of India, one has to

a] be of 25 Years of age b]he should be a member of either houses of parliament, preferably the Lok Sabha, the House of People c] he should be an elected leader of the political party which optionally would be a single largest party and d] he should be a citizen of India.

For becoming a Prime Minister in India one should be Citizen and should have completed 35 years of age and sholud be a member of the parliment and should be recommended by the members of the largest party if has majority to stake claim to form government or with its allies.

the previous answers on this subject are found correct, i just repeat once more that to be a prime minister one has to be a citizen of this country whether citizen by registration (naturalised citizen) or citizen by birth, must complete 35 years of age, must be recomended to the President by the largest party or the largest number of M.Ps in the parlament, other subsequent requirements may develop as various political parties are proposing to add conditions.

The Constitution of India provides for the post of Prime Minister. It prescribes the requirement of " A person being a member of the Parliament - Conventionlly the Lower House i,e; the House of People - and that needs us to know that a person who is a citizen of India and who is more than 25 years of age can be a member of the central legislature - thus what follows is any person who fulfills the criteria of being a member of the parliament can be a Prime Minister of India, however he who enjoys the confidence of the majority of the party which has highest number of members in the house is generally elected by such party to lead the Council of ministers as the Prime MInister.
