Re: need for freedom of press in India

Article 19 (1)(a) of the Constitution of India grants Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression but Article 19 (2) imposes reasonable restrictions on the right under Article 19 (1)(a) by putting a rider that the rights conferred by Article 19 (1)(a) must not be against the interests of the Soverignty Integrity of India, the Security of the State, Freindly relations with Foreign States, Public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, defamation or incitement for an offence. These restrictions are reasonable restrictions and every one must follow it. Freedom of Press is not different from Freedom of Speech and Expression but the Freedom of press is within the right to freedom of speech and expression.
