Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in India

One of my friend needed money 1 year back, i arranged for him from my account and paid him in cash. He told me he would return within 2 months. He had given me a cheque which is bounced with a reason given i.e.insufficient funds. I am too in need of money but he is not repaying. I want to take a legal action against him and get my payment. Please guide me for that.

u may send a legal notice to him within one month of bouncing of cheque and then file a criminal complaint u/s 138 of negotiable instruments act after he fails to make the payment within 15 days of receiving the notice.
