Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in India

Full payment made before cancelling cheque

Hi,

I deposited a citibank cheque for my CC payment for the month of September 2008. For some reason, the Cheque did not realize for that month. So I payed the bill along with late payment fees + service charges by cash the next month. Then I cancelled my cheque.

After that I cancelled my credit card. Four months later they send me an SMS that they received my cheque and subsequently they charged me for cheque bounces. Now they claim that I have to pay a due of 2000.

My question is what is my legal position on this? Am I really liable to pay the amount that they claim now after so many months since I closed my CC account?

They may be entitled to the cheque bouncing charges as per your contract executed at the time of account opening.
