Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in India

i paid 4 cheque of rs. 2500, 2500 4000 & 8000 respectively for my son coaching classes. from june to oct, in oct he asked me to pay rs. 8850 as advance fee , but due to some reason i not continue my son study from oct onwards and when i asked him to refund my cheque and excess amount with him he said the cheque is not traceable and you get the stop payment of cheque done. now he send me a notice for stop payment of cheque plus tution fees arrear from june to oct, and in this notice he dose not mentioned the 4 chq. which i had paid to him. in that case dose the court will punish me for stop payment of cheque.
