The best step for you would be to reach an amicable out of court settlement and avoid litigation which may visit you with uncertain results apart from being costly and time consuming.

Your fate would be decided by court on the basis of evidence.

Therefore, best line of action would be to engage a competent senior lawyer practicing criminal law and fight the case.

Re: 498a and NRI

You have to fight the case in local court and you can also got Anticipatory bail (Bail before Arrest). Then you can also file a certify copy of complaint and result therein filed by your wife in UK. It is a supportive evidence against your wife and then it is upto you whether you want to file a divorce petition or any harassment case over here or in U.K.

Re: 498a and NRI

The best way out for you to seek an anticipatory bail. At the same time don't forget to mention the order pertaining to the case of domestic assault which she had filed in UK, while seeking the bail as it would help you in getting the bail.
