Legal Question in Criminal Law in India
Can 498a be registered
Hi,
My wife has filed a false complaint for dowry harassment against me and my family members in women cell After some meetings in women cell we have signed a compromise deed for taking divorce by mutual consent. I have returned all her istridhan and more than half the money which was settled between us. Rest of the money was to be given during second motion of divorce. She has given an oath in court during first motion that she will withdraw all the cases. Now she want to get the 498a registered. My question is can 498a be registered against me and my family members.
Please suggest.?

Re: Can 498a be registered
I have gone through your question.
I suggest you go give rest of the money and settled the matter and ask her to withdraw the 498a or inspite of the settlement she does not withdraw the 498a then you produce the compromise deed before the court.

Re: Can 498a be registered
A case u/s.498A can be registered.
However, you may succeed in getting the case quashed depending on the her previous statements under oath in the divorce proceedings.
