can a magistrate proceed with a complaint case when the complainant deposes that he does not want to proceed further in the case & the offences are under sections 501&502 of indian penal code?

yes, the offences related to defamation are compoundable in case the person defamed moves an application u/s 320 of crpc. the matter would be dismissed as compromised.

Offence U/s.501 & 502 are compoundable and same can be compounded by making necessary application to the Court.

In a complaint case, the complaint can be dismissed for non-appearance of the complainant. Therefore, if you want dismissal of the complaint, you need not to pursue the same.
