Legal Question in Criminal Law in India
Dear Sir, I was issued a cheque by my ex-employer against my pending dues. This was the first cheque out of the total six cheques they have to give me on monthly basis against my final settlement on leaving the job(I have letter in writing from the company). this first cheque has been returned by the bank with remarks "Insufficuent Funds". Please advise what action i can take.

Cheque returned due to insufficiency of funds is a criminal offence, the company and its directors are liable and can be punished upto 2 years imprisonment and double the amount of the cheque as fine.
immediately contact the company and inform them about the bounced cheque. further you need to issue a statutory notice to the company and if they fail to pay you, file a criminal complaint before the court.
