Legal Question in Criminal Law in India

Forgery of signature on cheque

If someone forges signature on cheque and then files 138 negotiable act case against the person whose signature is forged, can FIR be registered for forgery while the 138 case is pending? & can the police ask for the original cheque for verification? Thank you.
